St. Paul Winter Carnival and Landmark Center Minnstameet
Last week I attended an Instagram meet-up hosted by @Minnstameets in frosty downtown St. Paul, more specifically Rice Park, 2 minutes away from the Xcel Energy Center. Starting in 1886, the Winter Carnival has been officially coined the “Coolest Celebration On Earth.” The first year featured moose drawn carriages and a soaring ice tower standing at 106 feet!
We met the Royal Family, got drinks from a completely frozen ice bar and listened to live music from Tim Mahoney before making our way in to the Landmark center to investigate, find photo opportunities and thaw out.
The Landmark Center was completed in 1902, and had originally served as the Federal Court House and Post Office for the upper midwest. It really has the feeling of an old building but it’s in exceptional condition. The Minnstameet group met in one of the old court rooms for snacks and refreshments before heading back out into the building, snapping away as we went.
